Finifugal, 2021

Caleb Theil

Finifugal ((adj.) hating endings; of someone who tries to avoid or prolong the final moment of a story, relationship, or some other journey) is a two-part series that documents the fungal inoculation of mold on berries in a manner that confronts and forces the audience to look with appreciation rather than disgust.

This project brings us closer than we often get to rot. The close cropping morphs the fungus into a snowy blanket filled with colors and vibrant decay. The harsh spotlight tells you exactly where to look, however, it is up to you to decide how to look.
